Poletown
Construction of the GM Poletown Plant (above) on June 23, 1981, adjacent to the site of the recently-demolished Chrysler Hamtramck Assembly Plant (formerly Dodge Main). Several months earlier, consumer advocate and auto industry critic Ralph Nader (below) had tried to help Poletown residents prevent GM from tearing down their neighborhood to build the new plant.
