An article about travel, and advertisements for resorts, hotels, and events, from The Michigan Chronicle, a black newspaper, in 1957. An ad placed in such a publication made clear by its very presence there that it catered to or welcomed blacks. Note, too, the emphasis on foreign travel to places like France and Bermuda, where blacks were not subject to the discrimination that greeted them in the U.S. |
